To my surprise I did actually receive a quotation for the cast rubber block strakes for my 1/2 sized traction engine (Little Samson).

Meeting With Teera Borigaan

Teera Borigaan is my local engineering supplier and workshop. They have almost all the engineering fabrication and machining facilities you could possibly need. From standard machine tools through to 3D printing, plasma and laser cutters, EDM to welding, bending, rolling and CNC lathes.
Mr Boi, the owner, has provided a lot of parts for my Little Samson Traction Engine EDM cut gears just for one example. Mr Boi is very helpful so I met with him to discuss his quotation for my rubber block strakes since I had a few queries. Below is a copy of the notes used for the meeting marked up with Mr Boi’s answers.
At the meeting I also had a print-out from the 10 Types of Rubber and their characteristics page.

To start the meeting I confirmed that the quotation 56,040 THB (about £1,265, 1,500 Euro) was acceptable. He seemed surprised by this. My impression was that he had deliberately quoted a high price that he thought I wouldn’t accept because he didn’t want the job. The work would have been done in Bangkok by another company, Teera simply being the middleman.

I was ready to accept the price (around £1,300) because I had heard that the price to get wheels for the 6″ Little Samson Traction Engine rubberised in the UK was around £2,000 to £3,000 excluding carriage.

As shown in the above Queries document there were a number of items which Mr Boi needed to check, not the least being the type of rubber.

After the meeting Mr Boi disappeared into the depths of his workshop and I never heard about this subject from him anymore.
