Moved On

Keith Patten

It was sad to receive the news a few days ago that Keith Patten had moved on to the big workshop in the sky.

Keith had a lovely workshop in Hua Hin Thailand that he built up whilst living here.

I never met Keith but exchanged emails with him. Keith posted a very interesting and useful comment on this website at https://modelengineeringinthailand.com/resources/tools/tools-suppliers/#comment-781 and covered such issues as buying a lathe and milling machine in Thailand and his escapade with Sam of All-Arm Co.

Although I never met Keith he was a friend to me, as you all are, and I sadly miss him.

Please post any fitting comments below.

Minesh

Please welcome a new member of the Model Engineering In Thailand community, a gentle named Minesh.

I was delighted to receive the following brief email from Minesh:-

Hello Alan

Thank you for your email about model engineering in Thailand.

First apologies for not responding to your first email when I joined your mailing list about a month ago.

I have been visiting Thailand for about 4 years and have been looking to see if any expats were doing any model engineering or RC flying in Thailand. I found your website by accident somehow, I think searching for retiring in Thailand. 🙂

My background is Electronics/Software & Mechatronics for over 25 years as an engineer in automotive and defense aerospace industries.

In my younger days I use to operate lathes and milling machines and now me and my friend in UK have a garage workshop near Loughborough with a big lathe and a miller and the all the usual tools. We like to tinker and make silly stuff in our spare time when we are not busy working.

I go to Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima every 3 months on average on business and visit family as I got recently married in korat.

Any way keep up the good work on your website about model engineering as its a dying art and only us old farts seems to be interested in it.

Regards
Minesh

I have posted a comment below and sent an email to Minesh.

Hello Minesh and a warm welcome to the Model Engineering In Thailand community.

There are currently 66 members registered on the mailing list which is quite surprising given the rather ‘off-beat’ subject and the location. (i.e. Model Engineering In Thailand)

I know one member, Michael, who likes to build and fly those helicopter-type drones (Quadcopters? Apologies for not knowing the correct terminology). He adds all kinds of sensing devices to them to monitor the atmosphere, take movies etc.

I’ll send you Michael’s contract details so that you can contact him if you wish.

Once again, welcome to the community and I do hope you’ll find the content we provide interesting.

All the best travels to him, I hear the lathe of heaven doesn’t come with a quick change tool post, hope he took his along.

I too had never personally met Keith Patten, but reading through his comments on this website, leads me to believe that he was a true gentleman. He will be missed.
