How To Make Brand New Traction Engine Castings Look Like They Are Months Old

This may sound a bit mad and an unusual thing to do but according to the guidelines when importing personal effects into Thailand in order to avoid paying duty the goods have to be more than six months old – basically used, not new.

Well my 6″ scale Little Samson Traction Engine castings certainly aren’t new but they look like they are. So I decided to make them look old by blessing them with the patina treatment. ie making them rusty.
